Borough

Borough has a very good indoor market, mostly selling artisan foods, on Friday and Saturday mornings. There are some interesting alleyways and pubs, including the Market Porter, and the George Inn. South of the river was once far less regulated than the area north of the gates of the City, and home to brothels, bookmakers and, even worse, theatres. The George was a coaching inn, and has theatrical connections back to the 16th century. It is now owned by the National Trust, so the beer's expensive. borough_george_wassail

This was a Christmas 'wassailing' put on by a community theatre group, featuring a rather nice Green Man.
