Entry 1:
December 2004: Rotherhithe was surprisingly more interesting than expected as we discovered the Mayflower Pub from which the pilgrims in 1620 or so set sail to America. Rotherhithe as a whole has a very strange ambiance to it - it feels like a model city planted there for residential purposes. Apart from the bridge, cutting off Rotherhithe Peninsula, there is hardly any of the old docklands athmosphere left... (Astrid, Ben)

Entry 2:
December 2004: At Newington Library (SE1) I found a booklet all about Rotherhithe. Based around the old docks (long since filled in) it mapped out a walk around the area filling you in on its history. Emerging from the tube station and making our way down to the Thames initial opinions of the area were slightly overshadowed by the wind chill factor of minus 5 billion degrees. Maybe it was just because of this but the area did seem a little wierd. The station seems to be behind a council estate but then a large majority of the riverside buildings have been turned into yuppie flats. Without our handy booklet telling us about its past we'd have had little clue of the areas active history apart from the few industrial remnants scatterd about... (Julia and Carly)
