Describe Westbourne Park here.
May 2005: My reason for coming here was to see Trellick Tower, famous for its architecture and social history. Being erected between 1966-1973, much thought has gone into the design of the tower. Three level maisonettes required access only every third floor, windows which could be turned inside out to facilitate cleaning and sliding doors to allow unrestrained use of space within the flats were the vision for a homogenous high-rise community by Erno Goldfinger (he himself is also said to be the inspiration for the Goldfinger character in James Bond stories). During the late seventies and early eighties the tower was used as sink estate for low-income groups by the local council which meant the tower soon became to be known as the "Tower of Terror". After significant refurbishment the tower has now again become a fashionable address with great views (information taken from The London Compendium by Ed Glinert). (Astrid)
